Dr. Viggo

Today I joined Viggo's class on a field trip. We were scheduled to go to the A.I. DuPont Children's Hospital, but ended up going across the street to the Ronald McDonald House. Because we didn't want to bring any germs into the hospital.

We learned about how we are taken care of in the hospital, medical procedures and some basic medical terminology.

First, some babies needed shots.

Step 1: Put on rubber glove. Little sweaty hands and rubber gloves just isn't ideal. The kids also learned how to remove the glove properly to keep the germs inside the glove.

The kids cleaned the chosen limb of the baby with an alcohol wipe, and then administered the shot. The babies were then patched up with Bugs Bunny band-aids.

Real stethoscopes were passed out and we all listened to our heartbeats.

Viggo listened intently but claimed he didn't have one. After many tries, we finally found it.

All the kids were well-behaved. Isn't this little one precious?!

Blood pressure was taken.

Each kid casted one of their fingers.

That was busy!

And then we learned about our bones. Viggo guessed we had 1,000 bones. He was a little off (206). But he did know that babies are born with all bones. Just as many bones as grown-ups.

And there's always time for a round of Hospital Bingo.

The most anticipated word to be called? Bedpan.
