The Lego contest entry!

Yesterday we were at the library.

Forever.

Well, only about 3 hours.

Viggo had chess club there for a couple of hours, so the girls and I killed time by checking out every book possible, reading stories, coloring, and playing Candy Land.  (I strongly dislike Candy Land, but the girls love it.  We don't own it, but they're okay with that since we can play it at the library.  The only thing I do like about Candy Land is that Elin calls it "Candy Landy".)

We also noticed glass cases filled with Lego creations made by kids.  Hmm?

Our favorite librarian, Dezra, told us about the contest and that Viggo was welcome to enter, but he had better hurry, because there were 40 spots available for display and there were already 23 entries in.

After Dezra found some Mayan books for Viggo (he has really been into studying ancient Mayan culture), and even requesting a Mayan book from Duluth's library system for him (she's so nice!) we checked out our 47 books, cds, dvds, magazines, etc. and hurried home.

In 15 minutes Viggo put the finishing touches on a ship he had built, including this lady pirate.  First he grabbed the nearest Lego pirate he had and put her head on the Lego pirate body.  I looked at the pirate lady.  Something was not right.  Her head had been attached to a pirate who had an open vest, revealing a hairy Lego chest.

I didn't think that this was that type of Lego contest, so I pointed that out to Viggo, who was horrified with the immodest pirate lady's wardrobe and quickly found a more suitable top for her.

We drove back to the library.  Viggo had his ship in a box and carried it like it was a newborn baby.

He showed it off to Dezra, who was still working and seemed completely unsurprised to see us, and she and the other children's librarian gushed about how great Viggo's ship was.

Viggo closely supervised his creation as it was wheeled to a display case.

And then he got it in there just right.

We found out Target giftcards are prizes!  There are two prizes for every age group.  Viggo is in the youngest catergory.

Good luck, Viggo!  Even if you don't win, it's quite an honor to be part of a library display!
