Making Candles

Svea is completely in love with her new hobby, candle making.

(Candle pictured is s'mores scented :)

So let's get down to work and show you how it's done.

When I say "let's" I mean:  Nate and Svea.  This is their special thing they do together on Saturday mornings.

Wicks are cut to a good working length and stabilized with popsicle sticks.

They are put into place inside the votives.

Nate and Svea usually make around four or five candles at a time.

Svea woks diligently to get the wicks into place.

And then stirs the shaved soy wax to melt it.  She is very careful, knowing the stove is hot.

Nate helps out with adding the coloring and scent.

Once the wax is ready, it is poured into the prepared votives.

 Here are vanilla candles.

And here is a cinnamon.

Why the hot glue gun?  A dab of hot glue is used on the bottom of the wick to hold it in place, so it doesn't move around when the wax is poured in.

Elin loves to watch the wax harden as it cools.

And there you have it!  Svea is one superb candle maker!
