Spring break

I am not ready for spring break to be over.
Its been so nice having Viggo around all the time.
And we've all had so much fun.
Here are some highlights of our spring break.

Friends and neighbors have been over to play.

We went to the pet store. Viggo and Svea have been begging to go to the pet store for at least a couple of months. That dream was finally realized this week. (Svea has her ears covered because of the noisy birds.)

Viggo and Svea loved seeing the cats. We didn't hold one this time. The last time we were at the pet store the kids and I held a chubby orange cat and it was all I could do to walk away. I wanted to adopt the thing and I don't even like cats. Or, cats don't like me. The feeling is usually mutual. But just in case - no touching this time!

Viggo had to take a look at the snakes, lizards and other creepy stuff. Ew. He didn't even bother to ask me for one. He knows that I would probably have a panic attack if anything like that showed up in our house :)

We went to parks.

Here, Viggo relaxes on a little tree stump carved into a seat.

Elin was having fun too! She has loved having Viggo around all day.

We visited Longwood Gardens.

It was 85 degrees that day. It was a little strange looking at tulips in weather that felt nearly tropical. What happened to spring? We went from winter directly to summer.

We wandered around parts of Longwood I had never been to. It was a nice visit.

I loved seeing all the forget-me-nots in the conservatory.

Svea was our tour guide.

All day in the hot weather walking around the gardens did Svea in.

Other spring break fun: We had an early morning experiment, breakfast ice cream. It was delish!

I got the recipe out of a cookbook called The Sneaky Chef. It was so good, the kids loved it! Viggo suggested I double the recipe the next time I make it. Can you believe there's avocado in there?

We went to the farm.

We love going to the farm.

I bought blue potatoes! I have only seen these in cookbooks but never in real life. It was exciting to find them at the farm. Let me know if you have any recipe suggestions for these things.

Spring break hasn't been all pony rides and May sunshine . . . today we brought Elin to the doctor; she has another ear infection. Svea just finishedher Rx of amoxicillin to take care of her tonsilitis/strep throat combo. And now we have ten more days to go with Elin on antibiotics. I feel like we have been drinking this stuff since early February. But if amoxicillin is the biggest annoyance in my life I suppose that's a good thing. We're so blessed to be able to easily treat these infections that are really quite minor.

Stay tuned for tomorrow - Viggo starts soccer! He's so exicted!

  2. Looks like a great week with the kids! I sure hope Elin feels better soon...I feel for her, really! Can I get the breakfast ice cream recipe? I can think of a couple boys at my house who would be excited if this showed up on the breakfast table!
