Wilderness Walk

While we were in Hayward last month we went to Wilderness Walk.
We love that place.

It's like walking in the wilderness.

You know, when you're walking through the wilderness and suddenly come across some sheep.

Or a huge turtle.
That's what Wilderness Walk is like.
It's a Hayward tradition to go there.

This was Svea's first time there and she loved petting the deer.

Some of the locals were out for a stroll at Wilderness Walk too.

Elin was quite taken with the chickens.

They were pretty fun to watch! The white one had feathers that covered its feet. Kind of like it was wearing bellbottoms.

Even though Elin thought the chickens were fun she wasn't so sure about the deer that were wandering around.

Svea, on the other hand, thought the deer were very sweet and was very eager to pet them.

This was a giant African porcupine. They're not native to the Hayward area.
It's an imported porcupine.
Svea thought it was very, very stinky.
She was right.

And then there were the peacocks.
Apparently it was that time of year to find a wife.

The males were showing off and strutting their stuff.

This was the only peacock that didn't have his tail feathers up. Either he had already found his lady, or he was depressed and had given up on the dating scene.

As you can see, all of the other peacocks were in quite the competition for the Mrs. I'd never seen anything like it before.

When Svea saw this camel she immediately said it looked like Daddy.
I think she noticed the resemblance in the long legs.

After our stroll through the wilderness, Svea panned for gold. She found several pieces but spilled water all over her dress. It was so hot she dried off in no time, but she was so happy about all her gold that I don't think her soaking wet dress even bothered her.

We had a great time at Wilderness Walk.
Thanks for bringing us, Grandma and Grandpa Daisy!
