We had a lovely time celebrating Elin's special day at Lake Vermilion.

Grandpa Zeke made the cake.

Elin ate lots of wild blueberries.

And received lots of birthday kisses.

The pineapple upside-down cake was made in a dutch oven. First you put in the pineapples and blueberries.

Then you add the batter.

Then you cover it all up.
And wait.

In the meantime, Viggo decided to split some wood.

And we opened up presents!

Every girl needs a birthday beanie.

Yes - clearly this was a need.

Viggo bought Elin some animal crackers. While he was purchasing this gift the cashier told him he could probably buy a baby just about anything because "babies don't do much" and they're - you're not going to believe this - "boring." (I know! Can you believe that!! What a dorky thing to say to a little boy buying a present for his beloved baby sister!)
And Viggo said,
"My baby sister isn't boring, she's really fun!" Ha! He told her!

Elin sat in Nate's lap to open presents. That's where she's happiest.

After presents it was attempt #2 at woodsplitting.

Elin patiently waited for cake.

Almost ready!

All I have to say is, thank you, Elin, for having a summer birthday.

Thank you.

It's going to take some convincing for Elin to love ice cream. But she had several bites of cake and seemed to really love it! I mean how could you not . . .
It was so fun celebrating Elin's birthday at the lake. I still can't believe she's already a year old. We love you, sweet girl!
Precious day!! Boy, it's going to be hard to beat this birthday... though you could make this whole shebang a tradition, now that you are MN bound (:
ReplyDeletep.s. you could totally market reusable gift bags on etsy - they're adorable!!!
