What we do on a snow day.

As our local school districts continue to issue snow days because of the recent and never-ending deep freeze {central Minnesota guaranteed frost bite today in five minutes or less!}, we continue to plow on in our studies here at VSE Academy.

Viggo did math on the floor today - and he was laughing a lot.  Later I found out exactly what he was listening to: a cassette tape of Baby Snooks and Daddy.  It was the "Insurance Exam" episode - originally aired on November 30, 1939.  Viggo is now a Baby Snooks fan and has Grandpa Daisy to thank for that!

 Svea had a good morning with spelling and blueberry tea.

 Elin and I did a reading lesson.

Elin poses - as Viggo says - "all the time."  This is true.  She can't walk across the kitchen without batting her eyelashes at you and looking coy.

Nate worked uber-late last week one night and missed dinner, so . . . I guess if you aren't at the table for dinner, you get replaced by Stuffy the teddy.

Braces! And the No. 2 Skywriter

 Viggo is looking super-spiff with his new braces!
Bummer:  a bracket came loose 3 hours after the braces were put on.  This could be a long 22 months.
Nothing an extra trip to the orthodontist can't fix, though.

 Also, Viggo bought and assembled another rocket - the No. 2 Skywriter!

That's write, (har!) it looks like a pencil.
Now if only it would warm up so he could launch it.  The Skywriter is supposed to reach 1,150' max.  Viggo is looking forward to seeing how high it gets!

Rocket launch

Viggo got rockets for Christmas and he and Nate have been having a lot of fun.

 This rocket is called the "Amazon".

It took about 3 hours to assemble.

When on it's base, it is nearly as tall as Elin.

The highest it can go is 600'!

That's really high.

Time to put this thing into orbit!!

Okay, so I have been trying and trying to upload a video of a rocket launch, it won't upload, and I can't figure it out.  When I do, I will post it (:

Blood, teeth, and 1,800 loom bands

 Svea is learning about the human body so we are starting with the basics.

Red blood cells, white blood cells, plasma and some platelets.
Or, water, food coloring, marshmallows, cheerios, and hedge balls from Wal-Mart.
Yes, Svea wanted to have a taste.  Um, no.

 Then the UPS man brought a little box of happiness.
1800 little rubber bands for loom bracelets!
They sorted and listened to Prince Caspian.  For hours.

 Before all this fun, Viggo had two teeth pulled in the morning.
And then, purely to show off, he pulled out his last baby tooth.  Because we all needed more blood-soaked gauze in our life.

Now his smile has some gaping holes!  You could floss those teeth with rope.
Viggo is now officially ready for braces.  January 24th is the big day!
