Farm!

This week we were lucky enough to visit a farm with our friends.

 There were chicks.

Both Svea and Viggo got to hold some chicks.
They were the lucky ones - they didn't get, um, peed or pooped on by the chicks.
I don't know if that's why Elin didn't want to hold one - why take the risk?

Viggo loved reaching into the chicks and catching them again and again.

There were 127 of them.
They were a mere one day old when we saw them.  They are genetically engineered and are full-grown by 4 to 6 weeks, all ready for the supper table.  Viggo was invited to come and help butcher them (he declined).

Horses!

They wore special hoods over their eyes to keep the flies from pestering them.

Svea loved seeing them.  As you can see, she wore her special horse t-shirt from Aunt Connie and Uncle Fred for the occasion!

Then we went to see the egg-laying hens.

They were such cute hens.  But they didn't want anything to do with the kids.

After hearing that the younger chickens were almost impossible to catch, Viggo considered that a challenge.

They were terrified of him.

Ha!  Success.

But when the kids went to look at the chickens outside, the chickens ran into the coop.

And when the kids went back into the coop, the chickens ran back to their pen outside.

So we went to the garden.

Running up and down the path was a big hit.

Elin's flamingo tank top, sparkly tutu and green froggy boots are the latest in farm fashion.

There was hide and seek.  Can you spot Svea hiding behind the gooseberry bush?

No one found her, so out she came.

We found some Bleeding Hearts.  I love them, and Svea and Elin spotted them right away to let me know they were blooming - they didn't want me to miss them!

Elin called them Bweedin' Hots (not their scientific name).

Then we went out to the pasture.
One moment after I took this picture, Viggo smartly marched right into a cowpie.
Squish.

Mooo.

And there were calves!

All the kids were so excited to see the cows.

Elin especially.  She was beside herself with glee.

Little calves - running away from all the children.

There was a closer inspection of, ahem, the poo.

Elin was running her hands through her hair, and actually said to me, "Mama, my hair look nice for cows?"

It looked so, so nice for the cows.  They loved it.  She was stunning.

All the kids, and the lovely lady that invited us to come.

Our fun event ended with rinsing off Viggo's stinky foot, complete with an audience.
